ARK: Survival Evolved (Switch)

Practically unplayable on the Switch, this ARK: Survival Evolved port should never have been released.

I was really keen to give ARK a go, but sadly they really missed the mark. The game should really be called ARK: Try Playing This For More Than Ten Minutes Without Pulling Your Eyes Out.

It’s seemingly a giant, disappointing cash-grab. Whoever was responsible for porting the game to the Nintendo Switch should be dropped into the wilderness with dinosaurs to fight for their survival.

The graphics made me feel physically sick, you’d get a higher resolution on a 1st gen iPod touch.

ARK: Survival Evolved on Nintendo Switch.

To be able to tell what you’re actually looking at you have to stare directly at a plant/animal/ rock and be within two meters of it. At first I thought, ‘maybe it’s just the handheld graphics’, but no, it’s bad on the TV too.

If you don’t have a torch at night time you’re pretty much screwed. The lighting in the game is atrocious.

Insufferable loading times – up to two minutes in some cases, this was for single player (local host).

Combat is rough as guts. You better have good aim or you’re going to swing and miss hard.

I’m not going to be able to give this game a full review as I honestly didn’t (and couldn’t) progress very far.  If you’ve played on PC or console let me know in the comments, I’d love to know your thoughts.

1 out of 5 – MUSTN’T PLAY
