New Star Wars film takes you to another world

Fun filled, action packed, fresh and a great nod to the Star Wars fandom.

Director, Ron Howard (Arrested Development, A Beautiful Mind), proves there’s still strength in the Star Wars franchise, taking the galaxy to new places that all seem so familiar.

The film takes place roughly 10 years before episode Star Wars Episode IV, A New Hope. The evil Galactic Empire are in control of the galaxy, while a young Han Solo looks to find himself in the stars.

Alden Ehrenreich, who plays young Han Solo, goes above and beyond in the role – but it’s still very difficult to imagine someone other than Harrison Ford playing the part.

Han’s old friend Lando Calrissian, played by Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino), nails it. His looks and mannerisms compared to the original trilogy’s Billy Dee Williams are perfection.

But fan favourite, Chewbacca, steals the show by a LONG shot.

If you didn’t want a Wookie bestie before – you will now. The film stays true and backs Han Solo’s famous quote, “It’s not wise to upset a Wookiee…”

Game of Thrones’, Emilia Clarke, plays Qi’ra (Keera). The story begins with Qi’ra and Han roughing it in the streets of the planet Corellia, now in the hands of the Empire. Clarke is classy and a total badass.

It’s not all perfect, there’s a couple of awkward and unnecessary moments, including one where you learn how Han Solo got his name.

R2D2 and C3PO are not the droids you’ll be looking for, Solo being the first of the series without a cameo from the beloved droids.

Overall, the film has a bit of something for everyone – Star Wars fan or not.

And a final word of advice… “Don’t trust anyone.”

Solo: A Star Wars Story is in Australian theatres NOW.
